Our Standards For Farm and Life

Healthy, local, fresh, and flavorful are the words used to describe the products we offer as well as the life qualities we strive to promote. Here is what we mean:

Our Products
Healthy our produce has a higher content of vitamins and nutrients than found in commercial produce as well as fewer chemicals through the use of certified organic substances and sustainable farming practices. Local our products are raised on our farm and by other farmers in the area. Become a locavore; a person whose diet consists only or principally of locally grown or produced food (this is an actual term added to the dictionary within the past decade). Fresh the fruits and vegetables you buy from us come straight from the field. Flavorful the fruits and vegetables offered to you are picked in season and at the peak of ripeness.

The Higher Purpose
Healthy in a society of processed and fast foods, it is important to sit around the dinner table with the family and enjoy a healthy, balanced meal together. Local the sense of community that is built between customers, families, and the farm helps bring people together. In life, we feel that relationships and the people you meet along the way are important. Fresh and Flavorful it is rewarding to break mainstream, supermarket culture and experience fresh foods and flavorful ways of preparing them.

The Farm

Our family farm consists of 180 beautiful acres in Lebanon, Tennessee. We raise a little bit of everything from tomatoes to strawberries. Even though town is a short 5 miles from the farm, take a scenic drive down Coles Ferry Pike and you will see green gardens, cattle, large pastures, barns, fresh cut hay, and other ways of life that seem to be fading away from this world. While many farms during this time were bought to be chopped up and developed, ours was purchased to preserve and provide a way of life.

The Farmer

Unlike many farms’ history, ours has not been in the family for generations. Our farm’s history as “Lester Farms” truly begins with me, Mitchell Lester. The decision to move to the farm in 2000 was based upon my parents belief of raising their children in the goodness of the land, and at this time, I was six years old. Looking back, this decision was one of the best my parents have ever made for me. I remember warm evenings spent with my dad walking behind the tractor in freshly tilled soil, or the crisp air of morning while harvesting vegetables that would be cooked for supper that night. These experiences embedded a true appreciation of the land and farm life within me.

At the age of eight, heeding the valuable advice of my mom, one summer day I attempted to sell some of our kitchen garden’s harvest at the end of the driveway. Soon after setting up my display, a car stopped and bought all that I had to offer: a few yellow squash and tomatoes.

With that sale, a love for agriculture and business was born. Throughout the years, the gardens have grown bigger, and so have my ambitions. Currently, I have foregone the normal path to college and am working full time pursuing a career that will allow me to work the farm, provide a living, and share with others what the farm means to me.
